 Spotting & Addressing Conflict in Virtual Work Environments

For the past several months we have been experiencing change at an alarming rate. Work environments have shifted - quickly - with little to no time for preparation. Individuals and teams are experiencing conflict and tension in different ways, while at the same time in a position to easily avoid addressing difficult issues. A potentially dangerous combination for workplace dynamics. 

This session will increase participants' awareness of conflict and its effect on themselves and their teams - especially as it relates to virtual work environments. It will provide participants with tools to better understand and address the behaviors that create tension in relationships. Participants will leave with an understanding of how their own and others' behaviors contribute to and perpetuate conflict as well as how they can work towards resolving conflict in productive, healthy ways. 

Since many organizations are shifting discussion and action towards office re-entry, participants will also learn tools and techniques for having honest conversations to support smooth transitions, whatever they may look like. 

This session will support ATD’s commitment to “Building Personal Capability”, particularly in the following areas: Communication, Emotional Intelligence (and Decision-Making), and Compliance and Ethical Behavior. 

Additionally, the session supports ATD’s commitment to “Impacting Organizational Capability” as participants will be able to immediately apply their learnings to current workplace and team dynamics. 

About the Speaker:

For the past decade, Natalie has worked as a consultant with executive teams--both nationally and internationally--to develop strategies aimed at fostering growth and innovation, shifting organizational culture, and engaging employees. She has driven large-scale culture change and innovation initiatives inside Fortune 500 companies, alongside sales, customer service, R&D, and new product innovation teams, to name a few.

Her work has taken her everywhere from Seoul, South Korea--exploring bleeding edge technology innovations--to rural Georgia, trekking through pastures, interviewing large-animal veterinarians to better understand how to improve the customer experience of the veterinary professional. She has observed how a symbiotic relationship between university-driven robotics research can fuel a community culture of venture capitalism in Pittsburgh, and has met with individuals working at the forefront of retail innovation in London. 

Natalie will tell you that--regardless of size or industry--successful organizational change stems from micro-change at an individual level because, when you take away the devices, the buildings, and the titles, we’re all just a bunch of people trying to do good work. That’s why she lovesfiguring out what people care about and what motivates them. She loves building trust and creating safe spaces to power people and teams to do work they’re proud of.

Her passion for integrating balance into her own life and the lives of others has motivated her to pursue and receive certifications in both Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) as well as Mediation. Her career experience is grounded largely in growth strategy, change management, and organizational and leadership development, all of which have led her to her current area of expertise: conflict resolution and mediation. Natalie’s 13-year old step-daughter describes her work as, “helping people talk to each other”.

She also happens to be a 200RYT (certified yoga instructor) but has learned that she prefers to incorporate elements of yoga practice--like interconnectedness, self-awareness, alignment, and mindfulness--into her coaching and consulting as opposed to physically teaching.
