A Glimpse into Group Coaching

Many Talent Development and Human Capital professionals are familiar with individual coaching for leaders and, of course, with leadership training.  They are often less familiar with group coaching. This session offers a glimpse into group coaching, and the opportunity to experiment with ideas about what this might look like in their own unique settings. Participants will:
  • Grow their understanding of the distinctive benefits of group coaching over training alone, and as compared to individual leader coaching
  • Experience the sequence of a group of mid-level leaders developing themselves and one another
  • Enhance their awareness of the essential ingredients for success in group coaching
  • Experience a mini-group session
  • Develop ideas for how group coaching might fit in their unique organizational contexts

Optional pre-reading:

Jennifer Britton (March 29, 2013). What is Group Coaching?

About the Speaker:

Ann V. Deaton, PhD, PCC earned her doctorate in Clinical Psychology from The University of Texas at Austin, with specializations in health psychology and neuropsychology. After a first career in health care, Ann earned her leadership coaching certification from the Newfield Network in 2003. She founded DaVinci Resources to focus on coaching leaders in 2003 and joined The Bounce Collective leadership development in 2009. In her coaching in corporate, health care, government, and not-for-profit organizations, Ann works with leaders and teams experiencing significant change and challenge. Her strengths are in creating the kinds of rich and open conversations that expand perspectives and ideas – and then supporting her clients to take action and realize their goals.

Ann has always appreciated the importance of developing people, both as a psychologist and department head early in her career, and for the past 15 years as a coach working with leaders and teams. In addition to coaching, she enjoys mentoring other coaches, and facilitating experiential workshops for organizations, conferences, and the Center for Corporate Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. Ann is co-author, with Holly Williams, of the book Being Coached: Group and Team Coaching from the Inside.
