How do you build a learning and development approach for an organization of 48,000 people who manage air space and safety for the nation?  The FAA and its four distinct operations has gone through the swings of centralized to decentralized and back to centralized over the past decades. What's the right solution  for a complex organization that must keep pace with political, commercial and public demands?

Dr. Phil Graham is the Special Projects Manager for the Federal Aviation Administration's office of Talent Development.  In the few years he has been with the FAA, he has explored approaches that will meet the needs of the agency.

In the discussion he brings to our chapter in November, he will:

  • share an overview of the FAA and its four key operations
  • share the challenges he faces in building an approach that will meet a variety of demands
  • discuss challenges, such as the recent incident in Chicago that temporarily disrupted air traffic, that require creative approaches to capability development
  • share the FAA leadership model
The event will be much more of a discussion and case study than presentation. And, you will have the unique opportunity to learn much more than you currently know about how the FAA governs air traffic, air safety, airports and commercial space, making you a much more informed traveler!
